Jack B. Howard

Jack B. Howard of the chemical engineering department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the winner of the Henry H. Storch Award of the Division of Fuel Chemistry. The Storch Award is given annually to a U.S. citizen for outstanding contributions to fundamental or engineering research on coal in the preceding five years. As the result of Howard's research, the chemistry, physics, and engineering of coal at high temperatures are all better understood. This includes the important areas of coal pyrolysis, hydropyrolysis, gasification, and combustion. Howard's address on "Formation of High Molecular Weight Aromatics in Fuel Rich Flames" will be presented on Wednesday morning, Aug. 31.
